Privacy Policy

Introduction

Focus Search (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) is a Chrome extension that adds a search provider you can use from the address bar. This policy explains what happens when you search and what we do not collect on the device.

What the extension does

Focus Search uses Chrome’s search provider mechanism. When you choose it as your default search engine and type a query in the address bar, Chrome sends that query to the search URL configured by the extension (for example, https://simplenewtab.info/search?q=…).

The extension itself does not show a separate search portal, new tab page, or options screen in the manifest—its role is to register that provider so Chrome can open results when you search.

Data on your device

This extension is intentionally minimal. It does not declare storage permissions in its manifest for collecting settings or analytics. Chrome may sync search engine preferences if you have browser sync enabled—that behavior is controlled by Google and your account settings, not by us.

When you run a search

Queries you submit from the omnibox are transmitted to the search endpoint over HTTPS, like any other search engine you add in Chrome. That server is operated separately from the extension package; it may log requests in line with its own security and abuse-prevention practices. We recommend reviewing the privacy practices of the destination site that serves your results.

Data we do not collect via the extension

  • We do not bundle third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the extension package described here.
  • We do not request access to your browsing history, tabs, bookmarks, or clipboard through this manifest.
  • We do not sell personal data from the extension because the extension does not collect a user profile on-device.

Children’s privacy

Focus Search is a general-purpose search helper and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to a search backend, contact that service’s operator.

Changes

We may update this policy when the extension or search endpoint changes. The “Last updated” date above reflects the latest revision.

Summary

In short:

  • The extension registers a Chrome search provider.
  • Queries go to the configured HTTPS search URL when you search from the bar.
  • No extra extension permissions for history, storage, or bookmarks are required for that core behavior.
  • You can remove the extension or change your default search engine anytime in Chrome settings.
